The Shinseiko pilot plant, 'SSE-E', that use multiple energy source, electric and coke, of 15 t/hr scale was installed to develop highly energy efficient scrap melting process for a total scrap recycling system. The 'SSE-E' was the DC-EAF of equipped the rotary kiln and the shaft furnace for scrap preheating. As a result of pilot trials, electric consumption of 250 kWh/t, coke consumption of 60 kg/t, and operating time within 40 minutes were achieved. The scrap preheating by the rotary kiln was also examined as a pre-research of Shinseiko pilot experiment. These results are research of SSE program in Japanese national program that is called Shinseiko Process Forum.
