In this paper, the characteristics of the molten pool and moving behavior during laser welding of TA15 have been studied through measuring of images. The results show that a molten pool can be roughly divided into three areas: (a) vapor/plasma area, which fluctuates at frequency of more than 1 kHz (b) liquid area, which temperature is more than 2000K (c) liquid-solid area, which is main part of the pool and has small temperature gradient. The further study shows that some parameters, such as heat input and welding speed, have certain relationship with characteristic of molten pool. According to the experimental equation achieved, the welding process can precisely be predicted and controlled during a practical laser welding.
