Serotonin is both an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system and an immunomodulator involved in various immune responses. Its various physiological and pathological effects have recently gained increasingly recognition. Localizing serotonin and its related molecules in neurons and tissues is critical for the understanding and analysis of interactions between neural and immune systems.
