摘要

Absorption of UV light by nucleic acids is a phenomenon of fundamental biological importance since it can result in charge transfer formation through the extended stacked heterocyclics of the double helix DNA. The various mechanisms, of the migration of the radical site towards the guanine residue and the subsequent inter-strand hydrogen abstraction which gives rise to protonated guanine that causes DNA damage through the formation of apurinic sites, were previously studied.
