A SERS Study on the Dissociative Adsorption at Pt Electrodes in Non-Aqueous Solutions

Electrochemical interfacial reaction and structure in non-aqueous solutions have received much attentionrecently because more electrochemical devices have used organic solvents, such as lithiumion battery. Due to their larger electrochemical windows than that of aqueous systems, many non-aqueous systems have been applied to study the structure of the adsorbates and the interfacial reactions over a wider potential range. Irish group and Pemberton group have carried out the SERS study in non-aqueous solutions successfully~(1,2). Due to the low surface enhancement for transition metals, their studies were restricted in noble metals, such as Ag. Here we report, for the first time, a preliminary SERS study on Pt electrodes in acetonitrile and methanol soutins, respectively.
