The analysis of floating bushing oil seals is of great significance for the design of high speed centrifugal compressors. The liquid seals are important to the compressor design not only for their ability to positively seal the gases being compressed but also because of their enhanced damping capacity at low speeds and their strong destabilizing action at speeds in excess of twice the compressor first critical speed. Accurate prediction of bushing seal leakage and the temperature of oil exiting the bushing seal is very important from the standopint of the pump and cooler selection for the seal oil console. The previous research has performed thermohydrodynamic (THD) analysis of floatign bushing oil seals with various seal ring bore geometries. The influence of mechanical deformation of the bushing seal ring, which acts to close the operating sealing clearance for high pressure applications has also been studied in the past.
