The present paper deals with some practical aspects related to self-scaling data acquisition systems. Previous papers presents the architecture of a sample self-scaling data acquisition system, analyses its errors for different quantities (RMS, Mean, FFT, Power), and verify its advantages on a practical case, without considering different waveforms or number of gains. Here, the authors propose a performances evaluation from the signal's shape and number of needed gains point of view. Theory and results show that the accuracy enhancement is significant for two gain steps (1 and 2), remaining practically the same for more than two gains, no matter what quantity is considered. Also, comparisons between different gain series and signals shapes (sinus, triangular, etc) are presented.
