Swine enzootic pneumonia is a major cause of economic losses in the pig industry worldwide. Mycoplasma hyopneumonia is the primary agent responsible for the infection, but secondary infections such as Actinobacillus pleuropneumonia/Pasteurelta multocida or Streptococcus suis might increase the severity of the disease. A control option for reducing the economic losses is vaccination. Three commercial vaccines are available in Denmark: Stellamune (RespiSure outside Europe), Suvaxyn and Hyoresp. These vaccines claim to reduce the severity of pneumonia thus increasing productivity by improving daily weight gain. The aim of this study was, by a meta-analysis of published studies, to evaluate the effect of commercial vaccines against M. hyopneumonia on daily weight gain and to compare the effect of the different vaccines.
