RISK FACTORS EVALUATION IN A SEVERE PORCINE REPRODUCTIVE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME - PORCINE RESPIRATORY DISEASES COMPLEX RELATED OUTBREAK

In a big pig industrial unit delivering more than 250,000 pigs/year, during September 1998, developed a classical sickness of porcine reproductive respiratory syndrome (PRRS) which induced, in the following period (October -December 1998), a very severe porcine respiratory diseases complex (PRDC) outbreak, expressed by severe respiratory affections and a high rate of mortality in growing and especially the first stage of fattening pigs. Epidemiological evaluation, clinical and morphopathological investigations external audit made by Romania veterinary experts and veterinarians from Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy wich have visited this unit, pointed-out that the evolution of PRRS infection, but especially the very severe PRDC syndrome followingPRRS complex, lasting more than four months, was conditioned and determined by at least 10 major risk factors related with some management errors and an inadequate veterinary approach of these two syndromes.
