The safety and quality of food is increasingly becoming an issue of concern for the consumer. The pork industry has developed different kinds of quality programs. One way to describe the quality of production would be to collect information about theproportion of pigs needing treatments for different diseases and how herd health is controlled. In Finland a health class, LSO 2000, in pork production has been developed (1). The main idea has been to make the need for medications low by growing healthyanimals in good management and housing. The regular farm visits of veterinarians are an essential part of the quality control. This study describes the diseases encountered in finishing units belonging to the LSO 2000 health class. The objectives of the study were to describe the proportion of pigs needing treatments, the diagnoses used and the veterinary involvement in controlling the health of the pigs.
