Lymphatic tissue associated to gut plays the decisive role in both local and systemic immune response. Foreign microorganisms and cellular fragments may penetrate through the intestine wall either by translocation through the epithelial barrier or bymeeting with Pever's plaques. Subsequently they get into lymphatic nodes and spleen where they stimulate immunocompetent cells. Original intestinal bacteria such as lactobacilli get through the intestine wall as well and are able to survive for many daysin spleen or other body sites stimulating phagocytic activity (1). Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are a type of oligosaccharides consisting of linear chain of beta-D-fructofurane units connected with 1,2 glycosidic linkages. According to (2) supplementation of diet of weaned pigs with 0.25% and 0.5% FOS increased weight gains and reduced the problems with pig diarrhoea. The combined use of foecal microflora and FOS in chicks according to (3) had beneficial effect on susceptibility of such chicks to the infection with Salmonella sp. germs.
