New Particle Formation and Hygroscopical Growth in the Lithuanian Coastal Environment

The events with well-developed temperature inversions were analysed. During one type of events increasing number concentration of Aitken mode particles caused increase in accumulation mode particles growth rate. Possibly, the oxidation of dimethylsulfide (DMS) occurred mostly via abstraction way and predominantly H_2SO_4 particles were generated. Also during the another type of events growth rate of accumulation mode particles increased with increasing Aitken mode particle number concentration. This result supports the hypothesis that nighttime chemistry was involved in new particle formation and growth. Experimental results showed that the formation and growth of new particles were clearly observed in the coastal zone.
