In the present article the transient response of surface, embedded and buried foundations interacting with 2D transversely isotropic viscoelastic soil models is obtained with the aid of the FFT algorithm in conjunction with a series of soil compliance functions in the frequency domain that have been synthesized by the authors. The methodology described is validated by comparisons with results reported in the literature. The influence of the soil anisotropy and foundation inertia properties is addressed.
