The paper presents an overview on techniques to aid signal processing in a GNSS receiver by feeding back information from the navigation solution. Its main focus lies on the implementation of a deep coupling scheme, similar to a vector DLL (VDLL), resp. vector FLL (VFLL). As receiver platform the Institute of Geodesy and Navigation Experimental Software Receiver (ipexSR) was used. The paper discusses the deep coupling concept at system level and presents results from a test run where the vector loop is compared to a conventional DLL/FLL implementation. The test run is performed by driving with a car through a university campus and represents a low visibility scenario. It demonstrates the three main benefits of the vector loop: increased availability, realistic Doppler/pseudorange accuracy assessment from signal processing and less computational load in the software receiver.
