Formation alpha'- and omega- Phases in the Ti-Os Alloys

X-ray diffraction, optical metallography, transmission electron microscopy, and hardness measurement were used to study the phase constitution and structure of the quenched and aged Ti-Os alloys containing from 1 to 5 at. percent osmium. It was established that the alpha"-phase is formed in the quenched Ti-2 at. percent Os alloy. A metastable omega-phase is not observed in the quenched alloys containing from 3 to 5 at. percent osmium. The omega-phase is formed in the quenched Ti-3 at. percent Os alloy, after aging at 400 deg C for 10 minutes, and in the quenched Ti-4 at. percent Os alloy, after aging at 400 deg C for 100 minutes.
