Influence a rotor-stator interaction on energy dissipation in a flow through a stage of an axial turbomachine is investigated. The analysis is based on use of the equation of energy transfer in a flow containing unsteady (periodic) vortical wakes behind blades of mutually moving blade rows. A source of kinetic energy losses is the dissipation of the specified vortical wakes which are assumed turbulent. Results of experimental definition of dissipation function in a flow through a stage of the axial compressor are submitted.
