Planning of IP backbones under particular consideration of real-time traffic

摘要

The main goal of this article is to present an integrated network planning model which considers not only the best-effort traffic as the present approaches but also the real-time traffic. The model consists of two iterative integrated phases corresponding to the traffic mapping task, as well as the topology dimension and capacity assignment task. The tasks are solved with the linear integer programming as well as with the genetic algorithms. Within these phases, several QoS constraints for real-time traffic e.g. latency, packet loss, end to end delay, jitter, and for "best-effort" traffic e.g. total delay, are considered. The model can be used for analyzing, planning and for extending of IP backbones in the today Internet. This article also gives the numerical results of some practical examples.
