Rolling and Recrystallization Textures in Al-Si Alloys

In order to investigate the effect of Si on the development of the rolling and recrystallization textures in Al, Al-Si alloys containing Si in the range between 0 and 0.6 percent were cold rolled 95 percent and subsequently annealed at 450 deg C up to complete recrystallization. Their textures were investigated with orientation distribution function analysis. In the rolling texture of Al-Si alloys, it was found that, although the {123}<634> and {112}<111> orientations were strong at the Si content below 0.2 percent, they decreased rapidly with increasing Si content above 0.2 percent. On the other hand, the {110}<112> orientation increased with increasing Si content up to 0.4 percent. In the recrystallization texture, {100}<001> orientation was very strong in pure Al. However, it was weak in the specimen containing 0.1 percent Si, while the {123}<634> orientation developed remarkably. With increasing Si content, the {100}<001> orientation became strong again at the Si content of 0.2 percent. However, it decreased rapidly at the Si content above 0.4 percent. In this region, the {123} <634> orientation also decreased linearly with increasing Si content.
