Aspergillus fumigatus is the most common opportunistic pathogenic species in genus Aspergillus, hich may cause diseases such as allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, aspergilloma, and invasive aspergillosis, a life-threatening disease of immunocompromised patients. However, the diagnosis of aspergillosis is often difficult to confirm using current laboratory methods. It is interesting that PCR or hybridication technique is hopeful for the detection of specific Aspergillus DNA for the diagnosis of aspergillosis, but the key problem of this assay is the design of primers or probes. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence of Aspergillus fumigatus is poorly known as yet. In the present study, we cloned and sequenced the ITS sequence of Aspergillus fumigatus for the first time.
