Sampling strategies for improving the decision quality on the fate of contaminated material stored in stockpiles

Different sampling strategies for the characterisation of material stored in stockpiles are evaluated. Up to 50 samples are collected in batches of 10 or prepared as composite samples and the use of the mean, median and standard deviation are assessed as ways of deriving the most representative measure of the composition of the material in the stockpile.
