Admission Control Mechanism for Real-Time Channels: A Sensitivity Study

There is a common consensus among researchers in real-time communication that the way to meet guarantees of real-time message communication is through reservation. Reservation protocols involve making bandwidth commitments to channels along their route based on an admission control mechanism. Admission control involves assessing the ability to meet the demands of a channel along the chosen route. In a previous study we reported a novel admission control mechanism based on assessing the scalability of links along a route in deciding a channel's admissibility. In this paper we report a sensititivity study of this mechanism. A sensitive admission control mechanism must minimize fringe decisions that are overly pessimistic (rejecting connections that could've been guaranteed) and overly optimistic (accepting connections that could not have been guaranteed). Using a simulation study we show that our mechanism achieves this goal.
