The present work examines the behavior of fiber reinforced concretes of different strengths, subjected to tensile tests. The results obtained using direct tensile tests carried out on dog-bone specimens are compared with the results obtained using indirect tensile tests (split cylinder tests and four point bending tests). The results obtained show the effectiveness of fibers in reinforcing cementitious matrices both in terms of strength and energy dissipative capacities. In the case of plain concrete the applicability of relationships recently introduced in normative codes to correlate tensile and compressive strengths is verified. For fiber reinforced concretes, the relationships recently introduced in international recommendations for correlating tensile strength with characteristic fiber parameters are verified on the basis of the experimental data obtained.
