A multisensor system for gas sensing, containing 5 thin films metal oxide detectors, was described including example of application to a mixture of five gases (CO, C_2H_5OH, CH_3OH, NO_2, CH_4) in air. Classification of the different air contaminants was achieved by using principal component analysis (PCA) as pattern recognition technique. The components of the array were pure and doped tin oxide thin films deposited by the sol-gel technique and a vanadium oxide thin film deposited by r.f. reactive sputtering.
