ISPAT DRI FOR CONTINUOUS STEEL PLANT IMPROVEMENT

ISPAT International's growth in DRI and steel production is reviewed. Management and operating methods for step-by-step improvement of DRI production and proof in the steel shop of the operating and economic benefits of improved DRI are described. High-bustle-gas-temperature operation of the DR shaft allows economic production of DRI with increased metallization and high carbon content. Intelligent use of this DRI provides steel shop benefits that include economical control of residuals, lower nitrogen content, improved slag foaming, reduced electrode wear, and increased yield.
