At Tata Steel IJmuiden a series of burden trials at BF6 and BF7 have been performed in 2009. The objective ofthese burden trials was to trial strategic future burdens, the quality of the burden materials and the effect on theblast furnace behaviour. These burden trials had major impact on the operation in the agglomeration plants, theinternal and external logistics.The regular burden in IJmuiden consists of 45/55 super fluxed sinter and olivine pellets. These olivine pellets arebeing produced in the on-site pellet plant. During the trials, two burdens have been tested. The first burdenconsisted of 40% sinter, 30% on-site produced olivine pellets and 30% commercial olivine pellets. The secondburden consisted of 33% sinter, 33% lime dolomite pellets and 33% commercial olivine pellets. The lime dolomitefluxed pellets have been produced in the on-site pellet plant. The regularly used olivine had been replaced by lime.The sinter basicity has been adapted to optimize the capacities of both the sinter and the pellet plant. The burdenwith 40% sinter and 60% olivine pellets showed very good results. The results of these burden trials will bediscussed.
