Bailey Mine started in 1984 and is located in Southwestern Pennsylvania within what is known as the Manor-Ninevah Reserve. The mine employs 328 P&M and 84 salaried employees. mining in the Pittsburgh #8 coal seam, the coal is processed at the Bailey Central preparation plant and shipped via rail to various locations, including Consol's coal loading facility on the East Coast in Baltimore, Maryland. Customers number more than 40, both in the United States and abroad. The mine utilizes two longwall mining systems that operate five days a week at three shifts per day. In place continuous miners develop for the longwalls and operate 10 machine shifts per day five days a week. When the mine was initially opened, it was projected to mine 2.5 million clean tons per year. The employees of Bailey Mine finished calendar year 1999 having mined 8,518,670 clean tons; establishing a new annual production record.
