In propeller design there are a variety of tools to be used for early predictions of the propeller open water performance. At Berg Propulsion Technology AB (BERG) there are several alternatives among these tools. Some of the tools also have extensive setup times. The limitations of the tools are to some extent investigated, but no comparison between the tools has been performed at BERG. The accuracy of numerical tools such as the boundary element method (BEM) and Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) are not solely dependent on the tools capabilities itself, but also on how they are set up by the user.
