Early age cracking is a major concern in concrete structures, since its serviceability can be significantly impaired. The aim of this paper is to determine and compare the post-cracking performance, at an early age (3 days), of a traditional shotcrete mixes reinforced with two different types of fibre, viz, polypropylene and steel. An attempt is made to predict the flexural crack development at early ages. From tests of notched beams of dimensions 100 x 100 x 500 mm, under four point loading, stress-crack opening laws were established. A stress intensity factor and crack growth resistance curves (R-curves) were obtained for both types of fibre reinforced concrete and these results are presented and discussed.
