Heterogeneous Viftreoscilla hemoglobin gene (vgb), lytic genes of phage lambda with S amber mutation (S~-RRz) and PHB biosynthetic genes (phbCAB) were cloned into the same ESCHERICHIA coli host, simultaneously or respectively, and some novel recombinant strains were constructed. The novel strain VG1 (pTU14), in which the genes vgb, phbCAB and S~_RRz could all be successfully expressed, had superior characteristics in the cell growth and PHB accumulation. While the results of the strains harbored the vgb and phbCAB genes without S~-RRz, do not better than that of the strains harbroed the phbCAB only. The simultaneous expression of vgb and S~-RRz in the recombinant E. coli producing PHB presented the great potential for the low-cost industrial production of PHB.
