This paper addresses the interaction problem between wakes and shock waves in ECL axial transonic compressor. The unsteady inviscid 2D compressible equations are solved for the mid-span section of the rotor. An analytical model based on vortical and entropical disturbance is introduced at inlet to simulate passing wakes. Unsteady predictions were carried out for different wake deficits. Correspondent steady computations were also done with the same averaged boundary condition. The main objective of this study is to describe and analyze effects of wake decay due to diffuser and shock waves interaction on compressor performance. Presented results indicates that unsteady flow generated by wakes can modify losses and energy transfer in the compressor, improving its performance.
