摘要

Background/Objectives. Electrical resistive heating (ERH) is an effective short duration treatment technology for high concentration/high mass chlorinated VOC projects with proven removal efficiencies greater than 90% within typical active heating timeframes of 3 to 9 months. However, in some cases, residual concentrations can remain above sitespecific remedial action objections after the “active” heating phase. In these cases, residual heat in the subsurface formations, remains above ambient levels for several years after ERH shut-off, creating an opportunity for residual heat to enhance follow-on, in situ bioremediation for “polishing,” and reaching cleanup goals. Additionally, the heating process itself can optimize geochemical and microbial conditions increasing the likelihood of successful in-situ biodegradation.
