This project is part of a commercial brownfields redevelopment in Maryland. The 19-acre abandoned and decommissioned shopping center is impacted with chlorinated ethenes, primarily tetrachloroethene (PCE), from former dry cleaning operations. PCE has been observed at concentrations up to 41,400 μg/L in the source area, with the majority of the mass in the saprolite and partially weathered rock overlying the bedrock. The risk-based cleanup goal for this project is the reduction of source area concentrations to 1,000 μg/L or less.
