Multiple strategies and technologies have been implemented to remediate chlorinated ethenes impacts in groundwater under a former industrial site near the Dismal Swamp in central New Jersey. The overburden soil at the site consists of a heterogeneous mixture of sands, silts, and clays. The depth to groundwater within the overburden varies widely from less than 1 foot below grade near wetlands and streams to more than 5 feet at uplands. Groundwater within the overburden is unconfined and is characterized with shallow gradients. The geochemical conditions within the overburden saturated zone also vary widely from aerobic to strongly anaerobic and high levels of iron with neutral pH. Localized zones of elevated levels of dissolved methane were detected in the overburden groundwater.
