Innovative Process for the Full-Scale Bioremediation of Large Dissolved Plumes of Chlorinated and Other Recalcitrant Compounds(ABSTRACT)

Remedial solutions often focus on the head or tail of a plume, but due to cost or technical feasibility limitations, treatment of the body of the plume is often challenging, or remedial solutions applied are limited in their effectiveness. The objective of this work was to develop and implement an innovative process applicable to the remediation of large-scale dissolved plumes of chlorinated or other recalcitrant compounds (e.g., perchlorate, nitrates, etc). In particular the subject process overcomes the challenges for remedial methodologies endeavoring to recirculate groundwater over large distances on the order of 200 to 300 feet. A patent is currently pending for the subject remedial process.
