”The central problem in in nanotube science is still the mechanism.Although progress has been made,the growth mechanism of both single-and multi-walled nanotubes remain controversial”,remarked Peter Harris1.The difficulties on the essence of the mechanism remain,despite much recent progress on controlling and optimizing shape and rate.Following a presentation at the Carbon 2016 conference and a perspective article in the journal Carbon,we developed the details of the chirality effects in 2 of the 3 routes of the proposed mechanism,considering the shape and solid-state nature of the nanoparticle”sides”operating and so explaining the growth and structure of the nanotubes.We followed a remark by Donald Bethune about explaining chirality using our approach.Our proposal for the CNTs and CNFs mechanism is in line with the observed kinetics-detailed kinetics-which seems to be the best working base to understand the mechanism.
