COLOMBIAN COALS CHARACTERIZATION - RELATION WITH COKE QUALITY INDEXES

Colombia is one of the most important coal exporters with more than 80 Mt/year, where the principal product is steam coal; however, Colombian coke and coking coals exportations are about 6 Mton/year. The quality of coking Colombian coals, makes them useful for the improvement of blends, especially in hard coke making processes. In this work 25 Colombian coals of five different regions were characterized by Proximate and Ultimate Analysis, FSI, Mean random vitrinite reflectance (Roran), Dilatometry, Plastometry and TGA. Each one of the 25 single coals and fifteen (15) blends were carbonized at 900 °C. The cokes (or chars) were evaluated by Coke Reactivity Index (CRT) and Strength after Reaction Index (CSR), Proximate and Ultimate Analysis.
