The processing of high density carbon/carbon (C/C) composites by pitch densification, under moderate pressures and with few cycles of impregnation/carbonization (I/C), requires pitches with high yield or a hybrid process. In our precedent works, several methods were used to produce C/C with high apparent density (of about 1.80g.cm~(-3)); (i) densification of preforms using the synthetic mesophase pitch ARA24r [1], (ii) densification of pre-densified (by film boiling chemical vapour infiltration [2] or carbon particles [3]) preforms. This work presents the characterization of C/C manufactured by processing routes involving ARA24r I/C and particles infiltration. One material is obtained using six steps; first ARA24r I/C was performed in a needled preform followed by infiltration of carbon black particles and four steps of I/C with M50 (petroleum pitch). Another way consisted in infiltrating the same type of preform with diamond particles and four I/C steps with ARA24r. Table 1 shows the properties of these materials and those of composites made with four I/C of ARA24r or M50 only.
