Rhizobia in the control of soil borne root infecting fungi and nematodes on crop plants

Plant diseases produce serious losses of crop plants and adversely affect the agricultural economy of a country. Of the disease causing organisms, the soil borne plant pathogens infect roots of plants, limit nutrient uptake resulting in the death of the plants. Whereas pesticides are costly and produce environmental hazards, use of biocontrol agents for the control of plant diseases has shown promising results. Of these, Rhizobia, the root nodule bacterium which fix atmospheric nitrogen has shown promising results in the control of soil borne root infecting fungi and nematodes.
