Channel coding and interleave design for satellite broadcasting in the S-band

There are two licenses, 12.5MHz each, in the S-band for broadcasting music and other programming to motorists throughout the United States of America. One proposal for the broadcast system is to have two satellites covering the continental USA atany given time. There will also be terrestrial repeaters in cities where the mobiles cannot see the two satellites. In this paper, we investigate issues concerning the design of the channel codes, and the sizes and dimensions of the interleavers for thissystem in Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN), Rician and Rayleigh fading channels.
