The US Army is presently using a large number of "590" type batteries. These batteries are being proposed1 prototyped or produced in many chemistries. Prototype exploration of a "590" battery based on rechargeable alkaline manganese dioxide/zinc(RAM) batteries chemistry is on going. Successful cycling of RAM batteries with minimal control circuits will be shown. These minimal circuits ensure a low cost rechargeable battery with practical performance.
