The mathematical structure of a soot layer adjacent to a diffusion flame is examined. The diffusion flame is established between two planar, parallel, porous walls. The fuel wall allows a convective inflow of fuel gases. The oxidizer wall diffuses oxidizer to the flame while allowing a convective outflow to prevent mass accumulation. Temperature and parent species profiles are described by Burke-Schumann (BS) distributions. The soot layer displays a dominant balance between soot convection and soot growth. Formulas are produced for the soot volume fraction profile and the soot layer thickness.
