A model to support expert co-operation

In delimitation to a model of cooperation with group work (Teufel et al., 1995), the differences between group work and expert cooperation are shown. Whereas in classical group work the persons involved have similar levels of qualification and doa similarly structured job, expert teams consist of specialists of different qualifications who work on a temporarily basis on a common project. For the description of the processes involved in expert communication, a model consisting of the subprocessescommunication, coordination and acquisition of shared knowledge is postulated. It turns out that most studies have confirmed the influence of communication and coordination, whereas research concerning the acquisition of shared knowledge has been fairlyneglected. This aspect as well as the results of an explorative study will be discussed in the presented paper.
