Advances in technologies continue to enter the transportation environment to enhance safety, operating efficiency, and environmental quality The key to growth and successful deployment has been integration within the operating environment Thetransit vehicle has been a model platform for integration solutions in a number of areas including intelligent vehicle systems, advanced propulsion systems, composite materials and vehicle management systems. Since the creation of the United StatesNational Intelligent Transportation System Architecture, the transit industry has been moving quickly to develop standards that will support this architecture and introduce open architecture and standards for transit vehicles. Now, with the advent of theIntelligent Vehicle Initiative (IVI), additional devices will need to be integrated within the transit platform along with advancements in other electronic, communication, and information processing systems. The IVI is a multi-agency US Department ofTransportation technology program aimed at accelerating the development, availability, and use of driving assistance and control intervention systems. This paper highlights the·Advanced transit technologies being considered collision avoidance systems, propulsion systems, vehicle management systems·Obstacles to integration standards, human factors, power generation· Plan for deployment of intelligent vehicle and other advanced technologies on transit buses integration through open architecture and standards
