Triboemission and tribology: an application to magnetic recording area

摘要

Richard P. Feynman (Nobel laureate) wrote in 1963: “It is quite difficult to do accurate quantitative experiments in friction, and the laws of friction are still not analyzed very well, in spite of the enormous engineering value of an accurate analysis." It appears incomprehensible that such obviously old problems like friction and wear still remain unsolved problems in many aspects. For instance in tribomaterials sphere the mechanical engineering designer needs formulae, quantifiable design criteria and models. This paper deals with first an overview of the most important works in triboemission mid tribochemistry areas and second some results obtained in the magnetic recording field. We present here some outlines to explain how triboemission phenomena can be useful for the understanding of friction and wear effects.
