Measuring Safety - The Development of a System Safety Management Maturity Model and Systems Readiness Levels

Paper will present work to develop a set of safety maturity models and complementary Systems Safety Readiness Levels Tool for all UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) projects. These tools are being used to conduct internal MOD corporate governance and quarterly business reviews. The paper will complement another paper to be given by Ron Howlett of UK MOD Acquisition Safety and Environment Support Group (ASESG) on his new common procedures for implementing high-level safety policy requirements through Project-Oriented Safety Management Systems and Project-Oriented Environmental Management Systems (POSMS and POEMS).
