THE ROLE OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE IN LOW EMISSION ZONES: POTENCIAL IMPACTS FOR THE CITY OF LISBON, PORTUGAL

The objective of this work was to evaluate the role of EVs in low emission zones on reducing PM and CO concentrations using real-world data for Lisbon, Portugal. A baseline case for representative streets of Lisbon traffic circulation conditions was built and compared with different scenarios: implementation of a LEZ (S1) and EVs introduction (S2 and S3). The results indicate that reductions from 14 to 81% on PM_(2.5) and from 62 to 99% on CO concentrations may be obtained. Overall, this study demonstrates that modeling tools based on real-world data can provide a good approach to study pollutants exposure urban policies.
