During a seismic event the fuel storage racks can slide, lift and twist in the water pool. The fluid motion around the racks is highly influenced by the motion of the racks and inversely too. The Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) must be considered for determination of realistic dynamic load on the racks. There are different analytical FSI-formulations based on potential theory used for determination of seismic loads on the racks, for example, FSI in 2D fluid field for two coaxial cylinders (1) and for two coaxial squares (2) and in 3D fluid field for two coaxial rectangular solids (3). In this paper comparison of fluid force and added masses between the different analytical formulations and the numerical simulation by the CFD code STAR-CD are presented and the applicable range of these FSI-formulations is studied and discussed here.
