Immunogenicity of six inactivated and one attenuated gE- Aujeszky's virus vaccines

The campaign for control and eradication of Aujeszky's disease (AD) in Mexico is based partially on vaccination. There are attenuated and inactivated gE- vaccines but in Mexico only the inactivated one is available. In field studies it has been demonstrated that by constant vaccination of the sows, avoiding the introduction of seropositive animals and making some changes in handling of the animals it is possible to reduce viral circulation. However, on several occasions, in spite of the continuousvaccination and measures to reduce viral circulation, there is no response to the vaccine. For this reason it has been suggested that not all the vaccines available in Mexico have the same immunogenicity and it might be important to use the attenuated virus vaccines. The aim of this work was to evaluate the immunogerucity of six commercial inactivated gE-Aujeszky's virus vaccines and also to evaluate the immunogenicity of one attenuated gE- vaccine, and determine if the attenuated virus is excreted byvaccinated animals and is able to infect sentinel animals.
