This paper presents the analysis and the design philosophy adopted for the inner containment structure of the Indian PHWRs. This paper also discusses the mathematical model adopted for carrying out the analysis of the prestressed concrete inner containment dome and the ring beam including the inner containment cylindrical wall. The methodology followed for computation of radial tension and the various considerations used for design of radial reinforcements in the inner containment dome have also been discussed in detail. The basis of selection of proper pour sequence, the prestressing sequence and the various mock-up studies related to the aspect of constructibility have also been addressed in this paper.
