Project Url: A Web-Based Resource for Professional Librarians Seeking Iols Information

Project URL is a team effort which originated during the course of identifying electronic resources that promote access to information about Integrated Online Library Systems (IOLS). Forty-plus students enrolled in a Fall 1998 Web-based asynchronous distance learning graduate level course offering, entitled "Library Information Systems", were asked to search the Web for resources that contribute to and advance the topic of IOLS. A large number of sites (several hundred URLs) were initially identified, and students in the class commented on the difficulties associated with making sense of sucu a large set of unorganized pointers to Web-base3d resources. There were duplications, pointers to specific locations within an overall Web site, and pointers that were incorrect, inoperable, or extinct. In short, there was confusion.
